'Hope with Horses'

. . . to offer hope and inspire
the 'dis-engaged' and at-risk
high school student.

~ The Goal is for every student to graduate. And to graduate with hope. ~

While partnering with the unique attributes of the horse, the students are working on skills such as mindfulness, leadership, choices, respect, teamwork and nonverbal communication.

~ Knowing first to re-engage, the dis-engaged must begin by addressing negative perceptions ~

Students in the 6th and 7th week are trained to be sidewalkers and are now able to assist during a therapeutic riding lesson with elementary special education students.

~ When you help others, you start helping yourself. ~

The confidence gained by the students, teaching the horse skills they have learned is truly amazing.

And the last phase is collaborating with their
teachers, taking these new skills and en-gaging
them in their future.

2016 YIPA Award Recipient

Susie Bjorklund received the 2016 Friends of Youth Leadership Award from YIPA’s Executive Director, Paul Meunier.

According to Paul, “YIPA members are at the heart of everything we do because we believe that when youth-serving organizations have the resources they need and youth workers have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to do the work well and effectively, the youth we collectively serve will be successful.”
