This is will be the place we share stories about riders and volunteers, as well as details about Freedom Farm events.
Did you know this is National Volunteer Week? Freedom Farm is thrilled to announce that we’ve trained in 84 volunteers to help with lessons for the Spring Session! We are so thankful for the many volunteers who give so generously of their time to assist in lessons as leaders and sidewalkers for our riders! Volunteers also clean paddocks, plant flowers, and help with so many other tasks here at Freedom Farm.
Here is one volunteer’s story:
Kathy McMahon has been a sidewalker at Freedom Farm for 5 years. She saw an ad in the paper about Freedom Farm and decided to give it a try.
One of her favorite memories was when she was walking around the arena with an Autistic boy and she suggested he wave to his dad, which he did. Kathy recalls that the dad’s eyes lit up and she learned later that it was not something the boy would normally do. Many children become more talkative and expressive after spending time around the horses. She cherishes all the children she has worked with over the years.
Kathy truly enjoys volunteering at Freedom Farm because it gives her perspective and is such a positive atmosphere. “I leave there and I know that I don’t have a single worry in the world. I have all the admiration in the world for the parents of these children. Everybody is so nice! Sue & Susie are so easy to work with. I love going there because it’s such a whole different thing from regular life where people gripe and such…[at Freedom Farm] everybody enjoys being with one another and is helpful. I feel fortunate that I can be there. It’s a great experience!”
